Fusion Laminated Drop Stitch is recognized as the industry’s leading construction process for premium quality inflatable SUP's.
Fusion Technology uses only one base cloth layer that is sealed (fused) using Liquid PVC creating a reinforced material that is water and airtight. Thanks to this new process, less layers are required, eliminating the need of a hand laid PVC layer.
All 2019 Escape SUP's now have an industry leading cosmetic finish. No wrinkles or blemishes or glue lines. The boards look cleaner and smoother, and even feel better to the touch.
Our 2019 boards are 7 lbs / 3.1 kgs lighter thanks to the new Fusion Technology!
Having eliminated the hand gluing process in construction, the boards are now more pliaible and therefore easier to inflate and roll.
FusionLite Technology not only allows for weight reduction, but for a stronger and stiffer board that performs better even at lower inflated pressures.
Escape SUP was founded by professional stand up paddler, Bodie Shandro, Canada's first professional SUP athlete and certified instructor.
Over 10 years of competition, instructor training, distribution, retail and rental experience is combined with 30 years of product development in the ski and surf industries.
Born from experience, paddling everything from the glass calm, crystal clear waters at his home on spectacular Heffley Lake, to the the SUP World Championships across the treacherous Ka'iwi Channel, the experience and knowledge of board design and construction is among the best in the world.

Fun for the whole family!
I was very fortunate to have been one of the pioneers of SUP in Canada. As a passionate surfer, kayaker and fitness junkie, I was immediately hooked on stand up paddling after my very first session. My career started out as a competitor, travelling the world and competing in the surf, and open ocean races such as the Battle of the Paddle and Molokai to Oahu World Championships. I was very fortunate to have been personally mentored by some of the icons of the sport, Laird Hamilton, Dave Kalama, and Gerry Lopez. My excitement was over the top and the next step was to share this new passion with the rest of the world, and as such I became one of the first certified SUP instructors in North America, and started the first SUP school in Canada, www.paddlesurfit.com. Soon after I became the distributor and retailer for the Surftech brand, the brand that produced the very first production SUP in the world. At the time there were very few manufactures of SUP’s in the world, hard boards were the rage, while early generation inflatables were like paddling an air mattress! Fast forward 8 years and there are suddenly 100’s of brands sold everywhere in the market, from specialty retailers to COSTCO! Over that time we had rented and sold 1000’s of hard boards, and witnessed first-hand how fragile they were, we were afraid every time one returned to the dock. Fortunately over the same period of time, inflatable SUP technology had improved exponentially, suddenly (if manufactured in quality factories) they were ridged, much lighter than hard boards, way more durable plus easy to store and travel with. This is when we decided after 8 years of hard board rentals to test and sell inflatables. GAME CHANGER! No more damage and water logged boards, we could store a dozen boards in the same space that you could store 2 hard boards, they were ½ the weight or less, and we could travel with them in the off season as checked luggage! The trouble was that now the COSTCO’s of the world were offering boards for sale for far less than we could sell our premium quality boards for, certainly nowhere near the same quality, however price sells. Needless to say we could no longer compete, even though we had established ourselves as one of the first premium quality SUP retailers in the country. At this point we had to sit back and consider our options, leave the industry or take the next big step, design and manufacture our own boards. We were just too in love with SUP and could not leave, however were not prepared to compromise the respect and credibility that we had earned as a leader in the industry offering only premium quality services and equipment. As such, I used my 25 years of design experience in the surf and ski industries, combined with our knowledge, contacts, and experience over the years to design a board, one board, one board that does it all for everyone, regardless of age or physical ability and manufacture this board in the same factory as the BIG brands. The clincher however was that in order to compete with the COSTCO’s of the world, we had to sell this premium quality board at a competitive price, and the only way to do so was to by-pass the retailer and sell direct to consumer. We crunched the numbers and they worked, we could offer a complete package of much greater quality for significantly less that the BIG brands, however still compete with the box stores! All we need now was a name, we asked ourselves, “what does SUP really mean to us”…..an ESCAPE! Be it a quick 20 minute paddle, vacation or multi day expedition, it was an ESCAPE! I quickly checked for and acquired the .com and other social handles and it was done, escapesup was born! Funny, when I later looked up the definition of escape, it came back as “a temporary distraction from reality”, I got chicken skin, it was meant to be! This season we are into our second year of production having sold out 100% last summer in July without a single warranty! We invite you into our world and look forward to speak to you, in person, from anywhere in the world to share the aloha spirit that roots itself in SUP. #aloha4everyone! Welcome to our “ohana”.
